Giving Thanks in 2020

2020 has been a unique year to say the least. From natural disasters to elections, there have been many events to marvel and wonder about. Amid all of the chaos and upheaval caused by the pandemic, I want to take a moment to reflect on gratitude this Thanksgiving. Because even though things aren’t as great as I would like for them to be, I would be terribly remiss not to stop and be grateful for the amazing things that have happened this year.

At 2 years old, my business is young and full of potential. I am so grateful for the opportunity to operate my consultancy. As the pandemic went into full lockdown and uncertainty began to sprout everywhere in the job market, it was a relief to know I didn’t have to worry about my job status. I did have to get creative and figure out how to be more effective at networking virtually. As a result, my social media presence has greatly improved and I started this blog.

I am so grateful for my clients. They have helped me to discover what I’m best at and what I love to do. They trusted me with their babies and allowed me to be a part of their process and we all were able to achieve success.

Personally, I have grown as a leader of myself. Being your own boss means you have to tell yourself what to do, how to do it, and when to do it by. Maintaining motivation through an “end of the world as we know it” climate has been beyond challenging. I’ve been ultra-hard on myself and have struggled to maintain realistic expectations. Reading all the “you can do it” and “pivot or else” mantras really did not help at all. So I decided to stop. I ceased worrying about what I was supposed to be doing and what I should be doing and did what was best for me and ultimately my business. I acknowledged the depression and frustration the pandemic was causing and gave myself permission to not be okay right now. I am extremely grateful for the release of that pressure.

I have no idea how much longer the storm of the pandemic will last, but I am so grateful for this shelter I’m in that has allowed me to grow as a leader and to grow my business.
