Worry or Weary

A long-time friend and I were talking about our current business endeavors and it led to a discussion about taking time to recalibrate ourselves after 2020. As we talked about the grind of entrepreneurship, an interesting concept arose. A lot of what we felt from constantly being in “boss mode” wasn’t worry, it was weariness. We both hold a strong faith in Jesus Christ, so we try to walk by faith in our businesses. We trust that God will guide us and help us with our daily provision, including what our enterprises need.

The exhaustion that we felt was the result of being weary. Constantly sitting in the leadership chair, making decisions, developing marketing plans, and figuring out what’s next had left us mentally and emotionally drained. Making the distinction between weary and worry was an important discovery. While we have a bunch of stuff to do in order to help our businesses thrive and it is stressful, ultimately we are not worried about it. Because of our faith in Jesus and our years of experience in business, we know the decisions will be made, the marketing will get done, and we will move into the next season of entrepreneurship. Taking some time away (and commiserating with a colleague) helped us to get some much needed rest and acknowledge that though we may get weary, we are not in a state of worry.
